The Foundation
The David H. Nickerson Prostate Cancer Foundation was launched in 2008 by his eldest son, Steven Cash Nickerson to increase awareness, increase screening and donate money to those that are working to find a cure for prostate cancer. Cash was deeply moved and in anguish as cancer originating in his prostate gland overcame the strength and courage of his father in the early nineties.
In those days there was little information about how early detection of cancer dramatically improved the odds of a complete cure. This is the one of the reasons for the foundation as Cash says, "There was a time when we didn't feel comfortable talking about any cancer. I grew up watching anti-smoking campaigns on TV and it appears that effort has substantially reduced smoking and lung cancer. And now I have watched with impressive interest as breast cancer awareness and screening has become commonplace and I credit organizations like Susan G. Komen for raising awareness and increasing screening among women. We men are behind if you compare prostate cancer and breast cancer awareness and screening."

The foundation is based in Southlake, Texas about twelve miles from the location of it's flagship event Par For The Cure. This is a charitable golf event played at the TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas home of the Byron Nelson Championship’Äîa PGA TOUR event.
The 18-hole, par-70 course measuring 7,166 yards from the championship tees has received a major redesign by former PGA TOUR champion D.A. Weibring and his partner, architect Steve Wolfard of Golf Resources Group, the same team who originally designed it in 1983 with player consultants Byron Nelson and Ben Crenshaw. It features rolling hills, indigenous oak and mesquite trees, numerous sand bunkers, and small scenic lakes on a number of the holes, including the two finishing holes.
The Par For The Cure tournament takes place a few weeks before the PGA event so the course is in tip top condition’Äîa treat for any golfer. Last year's sponsor list included Morgan Stanley, Zurich Financial Services and Aetna to name a few. To become a sponsor in April please email Evie Nickerson.
All donations and proceeds from the foundation go to The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, an international leader in patient care, cancer research, prevention, education and community outreach and a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center.
